I am a skeptic on most things and I liked that this book actually seems to be evidence based and not of the "If we can't explain it, then it must be aliens!" variety. Actually this book doesn't dwell on aliens much at all, but just focuses on the fact that there are some Unidentified Flying Objects around, that have been around for decades, and more investigation is sorely needed. Of course the hypothesis that they are extraterrestrial is a main theme, but presented in a manner that states more investigation is needed.
Btw, the author did correctly put the clues together and hypothesized years ago that the US seemed to have restarted a top secret program to investigate UFO (or in the new preferred terminology, UAPs). She was proven correct in the recent revelations that such a program did exist and the release of some of their data. This is actually where I first heard of the author as she kept appearing on various TV shows discussing the topic.
This book is NOT for those whom think aliens are around every bush and unexplained occurrence. Also there are quite a large number on contributors to this book as well and their stories all seem credible, but some obviously have more supporting evidence than others. Eyewitness testimony has proven to be very unreliable, so some of the case studies were quite refreshing in their depth of supporting evidence.I am a skeptic on most things and I liked that this book actually seems to be evidence based and not of the "If we can't explain it, then it must be aliens!" variety. The movie was "Meh," but it was a different view than I am used to seeing of Churchill. While I did know much of what the movie covered, I wonder how accurate the portrayal is of Churchill. For example, it is well know Churchill was opposed to the Normandy landings and was always, ALWAYS, coming up with poorly thought out hair-brain ideas, but it was my understanding he quit activity opposing the invasion in the Spring on 44. This movie makes it sound like he opposed it right up until they succeeded. I wonder which it true?
This movie makes him come off as a senile, meddling old coot. He was meddling, but I don't see how he could have been this bad during the actual war.The movie was "Meh," but it was a different view than I am used to seeing of Churchill. I saw this in 2011 when it was released and thought it was pretty good. This time I watch it and notice all the gaping holes in the plot. Like all the Jason Bourne movies. But still, entertaining and worth watching. It's not a bad movie, just geared towards a younger audience than myself.
I had never heard of Saoirse Ronan before recently, but this is one of her earlier works. I loved her in Lady Bird and her acting ability really stands out in this when she was just a teen.I saw this in 2011 when it was released and thought it was pretty good. This book reminded me of the book 'Wild" by Cheryl Strayed.
I hated that book.
But it was a popular booked that was loved by millions, so if you enjoyed 'Wild' I assume you will also enjoy this one. But to me it read like 392 pages of self pity as she talks about how everyone picks on her, hates her, doesn't understand her, all while married to her high school sweetheart who was her 'first.'
Oh the tragedy of six-figure endorsement deals and a successful career.
Not to downplay her own mental illness, but when you have a history of mental illness and ignore all the advice to see help before embarking upon a life as a sex worker, the only one to blame is YOU.
I also felt much was left out of the story line. But like I said, if you liked Wild, you will love this. If you think people are responsible for their own behaviors, you might be left thinking "B***h, please...."This book reminded me of the book 'Wild" by Cheryl Strayed.

This is a really good book and in many ways it reminds me of "With The Old Breed" by Eugene Sledge. The narrative are all very well written and very interesting. It is one of those books you can't put down.
Much of the American and British history of the war as recounted from Germans has always seemed rather slanted. Too much telling the interviewer what they wish to here. This book is taken from notes from interviews in 1950s from a man whom served as a journalist during the war and had spoken to many of these men prior to D-Day. I think the soldiers were more open that they would have been with a British or American interviewer.

I thought this was one of the better videos on this. Scientifically narrated and actual real graphics, not the bullchips that you see these days on some of the documentaries shown on for-profit media corporations.

I generally enjoyed the book, I wish though it covered more of the science aspect of the quake and not the personal stories of those victimized by it. You can discuss the stories of Valdez (and others) without giving the life history of all the residents. This is a war classic and well worth watching, but it is also from an American point of view. Good acting, mostly historically accurate, but it also gives the impression that the failure of the operation was due to the British not moving with a sense of purpose.
In reality the operation failed for a variety of reasons, shared by the British and the Americans, and a vastly overambitious plan to somehow mount a major drive down a single road. It was nothing but a fantasy in 1944 and nothing has changed since then. This is a war classic and well worth watching, but it is also from an American point of view. "Humans of New York" but all Hillary supporters. For someone who really, really dislikes Hillary Clinton, I did enjoy this book quite a bit. My dislike for her is not political, more personal. I think she is just a female, more refined version of Donald Trump, and apparently half of the country had similar sentiments.
But the book... It was good to read some of the stories of many of her followers and their reasons for supporting her candidacy. I found most to be very enlightening. It's a shame for the country and the world though that the Democratic Party in their zeal to promote her candidacy (against Bernie) resulted in her running against Trump. The one democrat whom he could beat was delivered to him on a silver platter."Humans of New York" but all Hillary supporters. This is not a field guide, or even a quick touristy advertisement. It covers the subjects too quickly, no depth whatsoever and moved to the next item. Really disappointed in this as I was hoping it could provide some ideas of places to visit. Useless in all regards outside of a few, very short attractive segments, with very little in the way of supporting information.
You would think when they speak on an area as being "Off the beaten path, it takes two days to backpack to the location" that it would get more than 10 seconds of explanation. This is not a field guide, or even a quick touristy advertisement.
