Purchasing a beautifully carved and sealed oak trunk at an auction, Miss Seeton is unaware that the trunk's stolen contents are more valuable than the trunk itself, and that someone is willing to kill to get them.

Blackwell North Amer
Life has been uneventful for Miss Seeton as of late. The relentless rain is keeping her from her garden, and she's feeling a bit cooped up. Therefore, she eagerly accepts an invitation to attend an auction - if nothing else, it will help pass the time.
When Miss Seeton's on the scene, however, things never stay uneventful for long. Raising her umbrella to catch the attention of Superintendent Brinton, also in attendance, she finds herself the owner of a locked antique box that no one else wants to bid on. Though the purchase began as a mistake, Miss Seeton must admit that she's intrigued by the box - the keys have long been lost, and no one's sure what lies inside.
Unfortunately though, what lies inside is trouble. Among other items, Miss Seeton finds a coronet and a red velvet robe that may be of royal origin. She fears that something is amiss - and her fears are confirmed when an auction-house employee is killed in her very own sitting room. Once again, the inimitable Emily D. Seeton has set herself on the trail of some very dangerous characters - and as always, she will lead them, in her own convoluted way, swiftly and surely to justice.
