I couldn't believe all the negative library patron reviews on this flick so I opted to write my own positive review. The first time I saw this Cohen Brothers film I was underimpressed by it too. I don't think I even finished it. What's the point? Why is it relevant?
I teach a college class and every quarter I make a list of everyone's all time favorite movies. It's a culture building experiment. For years this movie appeared on every list so I revisited it.
After about the 3rd viewing I began to understand. I've seen it at least 10 times now and find myself understanding where I fit in the Lebowski cosmos.
In my first viewing I could not see what was special about it. I think that's because I knew all the characters in real life and I suspect I was one or more of those characters. As I aged I distanced myself from that lifestyle and found myself on the outside looking in rather than a fish swimming in the waters. Now I watch the film for the characters that I miss. A nostalgia for the past America of my youth. That and the music. It's a great film but that's just my opinion man.

I watched it because everyone says, "OMG, you've never seen The Big Lebowski?!" OK - I've seen it. Whoopee -

In this case of mistaken identity, Jeff Lebowski is mistaken for Jeffrey Lebowski, and as a result he is beaten up. However, after tracking down the man that he was mistaken for, Jeff is recruited to help find Jeffrey’s wife who has been kidnapped. With the help of some very strange yet interesting characters, Jeff goes on to complete this task that he is not exactly sure he can do. This movie is bizarre, crazy, and hilarious all in one. I would rate this movie 4/5 stars for it’s interesting performances, and recommend it to those who love absurdity as well as crime films. @THe_Reviewer of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library

This movie was very boring to me. Long has it been since I left my days of pot smoking as a prelude, mid-day snack, and finish to my day. (I'm not talking med marijuana. Some people need that, and it's much better than opioids in a lot of instances.)
Lebowski, played by Jeff Bridges, smokes pot, drinks, doesn't have a full-time job. His friends and he are a part of the long-gone 1970's era of let's get high and feel better, and one is even a part of the revolution of the Viet Nam War. The time of the film is the 1990's era, and I was just bored by the humor, the story of the characters.
I watched it because the supporting cast is made up of strong character actors who work all the time in the industry now, and it was the beginning, or near beginning of their careers. They were very good, as was Jeff Bridges. I just didn't like the story, and Lebowski lifestyle is boring for me to watch.

All-star cast in very disjointed film. Jeff Bridges just plays Jeff Bridges. Clever one-liners now and then, but lots of nonsense repetitive dialogue. Glad I watched it, but it's overrated.

The Wikipedia page for this film sums it up pretty well with the quote from Joel Coen: "characters trying to unravel a mystery, as well as having a hopelessly complex plot that's ultimately unimportant." It has a bizarre cast of quotable characters and, in keeping with Samuel Clemens' definition of a classic, it is worth seeing at least once.

This movie has everything- German nihilists, a Vietnam veteran bowler with a short fuse, White Russian cocktails, fake kidnapping, and a mistaken identity.

Cool movie

Could not even keep my attention slightly. After all the hype and all the friends shouting "YOU'VE NEVER SEEN IT?!?!" It was all I could do just to get through it so I can say I've seen it.

I don't understand the attraction to this film. It has a bit of a cult following but it didn't keep my attention. But I recommend viewing it at least once because you are bound to meet someone in your life time who enjoyed it. A conversation piece. Google "Big Lebowski trivia" & find the answers from the film to make the experience more entertaining if needed.
