This was a great book and I recommend it for middle school
and high school students and so on. But It really teaches you that no matter if you are the leader or just a follower in what you are not supposed to do you will always end screwed up. It also shows you the secret life of gangs and rivalries. Great book .

This book is great. It is hauntingly realistic, and gives the reader a look into the lives of gang members, underprivileged youth, and those who never really stood a chance.

Story follows DeShawn, a boy in the projects, who lives with his sister and grandma in a neighborhood short on hope and long on teen pregnancies, gangs, drug use, crime and early death. We start with a DeShawn who still admires a local police officer and who avoids the gangs, and end up with a young teen desperate to provide for his family and willing to do anything for them, even becoming head of the gang.
