I love all the Llama Llama series and enjoys reading that with my daughter.
It is time for Llama Llama to go to school for the first time. He is fine until it is time to say goodbye to Mama Llama. Little Llama becomes shy and does not want to play. He misses Mama and begins to cry. But the teacher reassures him that Mama is coming back and the other students encourage little Llama to play with them. He has a great time and Mama returns just as she said she would. In the end, Llama Llama decides he likes school.
The illustrations in this book are very colorful and have a heavy paint texture to them. The story is nice and simple and not over the top with negative emotions as with some of the other Llama books. Little Llama is sad and a bit grumpy, but all within the normal range of a child being separated from Mama for the first time.
The style of writing is a bit unnatural: "Put on coats and run outside. See the Playhouse! Try the slide." But this book is advertized for ages 3-5 and will certainly speak to this age audience.
Good book to help your little one through the rough times of being left at daycare or kindergarten for the first time. Beautiful illustrations.
Enjoyed by a 3 yr old who was feeling sad about being at daycare. Reassuring.
