Interesting insights into life in pre-war Syria and Islamic culture.

Apparently adoption doesn't occur in Muslim countries. Adoption occurred in pre-Islamic times but as documented in the Koran and Hadiths, Mohamed lusted over the wife of his step-son. To take this new wife from his step-son, bed, and marry her Mohamed disallowed adoption in Islam (having Allah "recite" though him rationale for this in the Koran). Thus, for example, apparently none of the orphan children from Muslim Bosnia were adopted by Muslims. They were adopted by Christians.

Islam was built on Arab raiding culture; justifying taking booty, slaves, killing. As recited in the Koran, Mohamed was due 1/5 of the booty. The author thinks this raiding culture continues to be the essence of Muslim thinking.

Along with Ayaan Hirsi Ali's books, Infidel and The Caged Virgin, both authors give a first hand woman's view of what it was like living in an Islamic theocracy.
