Notes on a few of the artists here: If Paul Buchanan's voice impacts you, check out his former band, The Blue Nile. The Blue Nile regularly tops lists of critical favorites. _Hats_ is on my Desert Island disc list, as perfect a late-night companion as I’ve found. If you like "How Long Will I Love You?", follow that to its 1990 album, _Room to Roam_ by The Waterboys. Both that and its preceding _Fisherman’s Blues_ are in the same Irish folk style, and worth your time. Their earlier albums are just as brilliant, if larger in scope. Last, Nick Laird-Clowes once fronted The Dream Academy, another brilliant band sadly inactive now. Best known for “Life in a Northern Town”, any of their three albums or the recent retrospective are worth tracking down.
I love sappy, romantic songs, and I also love many of the artists on this album. However, it was a bit drippy...mostly a collection of forgettable slow songs. Meh.
