Acting and casting so disappointing. Wanted it to be good. Love her books. Audio books by Ralph Cosham much better than film. He made characters come alive in their quirkiness.

Ok, let's get this off the table:
I am not a Canadian, AND I haven't read the book(s), so my panties will not be in a bunch over the "butchered" book to film comparisons for this murder mystery, or the abhorrent lack of Frenchy-ness. I enjoyed it. Very scenic, very quaint. And apparently, the author Louise Penny who was dead-set against releasing the film rights for years, only finally succumbing here, oversaw the entire creative process, so I can't see how things could go that far astray from her vision if she was on board...

"Still Life" a three pies mystery does nothing to satisfy me. The only recognizable star is Nathaniel Parker but frankly anyone else could have done an equally good job considering the story. There may be sequels that improve my interest but frankly my dear, I don't give a damn.

I loved this movie: Sandbridge East in the Eastern Townships is the perfect setting for "Still Life" and the little village of Three Pines. Nathaniel Parker is just right for Gamache, though a mustache would have helped the authenticity of his image. Clara and Ruth could have been a lot more earthy and Beauvoir and members of the Surete de Quebec should have been a bit more Quebecois. I have read the book twice yet that did nothing to detract from my pleasure in this thoroughly enjoyable movie. The extras were a real bonus too. I hope the next movie comes out soon and that Ruth gets to swear a bit.

Enjoyed the film. Of course, a film does not have the depth, history and character development found in a book (any book). I do feel you should read the book first though, as some aspects of the film have no or less meaning without the background you get in the book version. Still, a pleasant watch.

Well, I haven't read the books so I'm at a disadvantage. I had difficulty following the plot. Even though I'm a huge fan of Nathaniel Parker, I thought the acting was horrific. And the police characters seemed flat and unrealastic.

I am a great fan of this series. I find the characters well-written and interesting and the evolution of their life stories fascinating. I cannot say the same of this film. The story makes little sense and seems to hop all over, while the books are able to take time to build a story. It almost seemed as if the screenwriter and director were not familiar with her work and on a deadline to get something done quickly. I do not recommend it.

Since I have not read the book on which this film is based, I don't know how closely it is followed. The film is well done, well acted by an excellent cast and if the autumn woods
were any more colorful, they would be garish. To give this film anything less than 5 stars is churlish. Excellent entertainment......
if you like a good mystery.
