I liked this movie more than I expected. I found it suspenseful and the apes in motion were fun to watch. Leadership, trust, loyalty, family are shown from the apes' and humans' view.

Nothing to go ape about, but a good way to cool your heels in the heat.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is a "darker" movie than Rise of the Planet of the Apes. This sequel is very different from it's predecessor, Rise of the P of A in which the apes just wanted to get to the Muir Forest. Dawn of the P of A reflects the many misunderstandings, mistrust, and hatred between humans and apes, leading to conflicts and war, paralleling prejudice and racism. Like in our society, there are also those who try to be peacemakers. More characters are developed, in particular Koba. Andy Serkis, again, shows his skill in acting the role of Ceasar. While I enjoyed Dawn, I prefer Rise of the P of A, and the one currently playing at the theatre, War for the Planet of the Apes, better.

This is a worthy successor to the Planet of the Apes franchise that surpasses the original. Everything that was great about the first film is improved here. The motion-capture has improved to make the apes even more real. At times, I kept thinking some of these creatures must be real. It's that good. But the performances behind them is where it is truly amazing. Andy Serkis, at the very least, should have been nominated for an Academy Award. Amazing stuff.

Mind rape. This movie was awful, the acting was atrocious as was the story and script. I was so happy after this mindless two hours of ape grunting was over.

While the James Franco-led RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES was ninety percent people and ten percent apes, the second installment in this prequel series, DAWN, is the reverse. Apes have truly risen, building their own society, with a line drawn between the city and the woods. The story felt like a live-action LION KING. Considering the events of its predecessor, it's a logical next step in the series and a good one at that. It wasn't a surprising turn, which falls into the category of the common complaint of the lack of daring or "safeness" of this film, but still I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait for another installment. I recommend DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES.

The pace could be faster in making those humanistic points. Otherwise, very watchable for the special effects and visuals of squalid San Francisco landmarks ten years after the "Rise of the Planet of the Apes."

Predictable plot of humans -V- apes. Right wing factions of both groups plot war while respective leaders try to find a compromise. Great CGI but it looks like another feeble attempt to "milk" the franchise for a few more box-office coinage. What else is new?

Caesar: War has already begun. Ape started war. And human ... Human will not forgive. You must go before fighting begins. I am sorry my friend.
Malcolm: I thought we had a chance.
Caesar: I did too.

Caesar: I always think ape better than human. I see now how much like them we are.
