Compelling story, which I enjoyed, but too much violence that needn't have been shown, which I forwarded over regularly. Watching women (& men for that matter) get beaten & raped is not my idea of entertainment. Some of the characters are meant to have a dark side, but I felt at times it went too far. Having said that, I think there is an important element in this storyline that needs to be addressed: the acceptable rough and violent treatment of women, and how the same treatment of the hero is portrayed as unacceptable - if anything, I would say this opens the floor for discussion of how women's sexuality, rape & sexual abuse is portrayed in contrast to the same treatment of men.
I did however enjoy the basic outline of the story, and love the historic period representations. (however, not always very accurate! For example, bringing Geillis Duncan into the 18th c - she is a historical person from 16th c) The costumes are gorgeous, and who doesn't love a sexy chivalrous man in a kilt!
I will continue to watch the series, but also continue to fast-forward through the extremely violent scenes.

Fell asleep during first 15 minutes. Boring. Prefer to watch paint dry.

Show just keeping better. Love it. A good romance, but not for kids, lots of sexual scenes.

The second half of season 1 was better than the first. Lots of action, plot twists and of course, amazing costumes. Looking forward to season 2!

I read the book till - I finished - that's right - the book and movie are both good. how, it shows the difference of time -- as in the movie time machine -- without the machine...... I can't imagine what it is like living in that scene of the world.......

Horrible male rape scenes. So sorry I watched this; I only hope I can forget this voyeuristic depravity. I won't continue to follow this series.

You are forewarned, series 1, vol. 2 is hard to watch with SPOILER ALERT: Captain Randall forcing himself sexually on both protagonists, though that's what happened in the book apparently. I was waiting for at least one of them to be rescued, but no such luck. This 2nd installment was just too much of a downer for me to watch all the way through, though I truly enjoyed vol. one's inventive premise and characters.

Great costume, landscape and setting, and a heavy celtic flavour all make this film enjoyable to watch. However, after a little while things get dragged on, and on. So I kind of lost patience and have no strong craving for another season.

The description has essentially foretold what viewers should expect. Nonetheless, the events were still engrossing with plenty of surprises. Also, no doubt those graphic violent physical and sexual scenes were simulated, but still shocking to watch; hats off to the actors and special effect team.

This was so intreaging, I watched it all almost obsessively. By the time of the ending, I was almost speechless. The acting was incredible. Just amazing. Wow.

Jamie: It's not about what I believe. These people, they've have never been more than a day's walk from place where they were born. They know no more of the world than what Father Bain tells them to cook on a Sunday. The parents of that child, they might come for him in a bit and think it's the changeling that died and think of their own child, healthy and well living forever with the fairies.

Jamie: I've always known I've lived a like different from other men. When I was a lad I saw no path before me, I simply took a step and then another. Ever forward, ever onward, rushing toward someplace I knew not where. And one day I turned around and looked back and saw that each step I'd taken was a choice, to go left, to go right, to go forward or even to not go at all. Every day every man has a choice between right and wrong, between love and hate, and sometimes between life and death and the sum of those choices becomes your life. The day I realized that is the day that I became a man.

Jamie: This family has taken ye in, has given ye food and shelter and ye might want to show some gratitude!
Man: You might want to remember who has the pistol.

Jamie: They've burned hay we need for winter. You'd have me turn the other cheek?
Ian: That's why ye've got two cheeks, ye lemmer.

Jamie: Remember, we used to argue which was the bigger sin, fornication or killin' and worry whether we would go to hell?
Ian: Well, if you're goin' to hell, I might as well go, too. God knows you'll never manage alone.
Jamie: Go get the shovel.

Ian: And this would be...?
Claire: The trollop. Otherwise known as Claire Fraser.

Claire: If you really are a witch, now would be the perfect time to use your powers.
Geillis: Aye, same to you my friend.

Monk: How marvelous, extraordinary. A miracle, perhaps.
Claire: A miracle? Somehow I don't think canon law is constructed with my situation in mind.
Monk: True, but our Lord sees the truth in all things, and so he knows your truth as well. Whatever your sins may be, have faith it will be forgiven.

Jamie: How can you save a man that doesn't want saving?
Monk: I've no doubt you can mend his body, but there are other wounds not so easily dealt with. His soul, I'm afraid, is in turmoil.

Jenny: Love forces a person to choose. You do things you never imagined you could do before.

Claire: It's alright. It is possible to deliver a breech baby. I'll only have to reach inside and guide it out.
Jenny: All right, but you'll be fetching me a good, stiff dram before we start.
Claire: In that case, the baby will likely be drunk, too.
Jenny: Then he'll come into the world a true Scot.
