In this highly readable and provocative book, Dr. Jason Fung sets out an original, robust theory of obesity that provides startling insights into proper nutrition. Flying in the face of the weight-loss recommendations that have failed in the past, this book reveals that obesity is a hormonal, not a caloric imbalance. As he explores the latest in nutritional science, Dr. Fung provides practical, effective advice on weight loss and the treatment of Type 2 diabetes based on sound scientific principles.

The book is worth reading; the author mentions many issues related to obesity. However, for those who know a bit, there is little of thru substance. Recommendations can be summarized, and I quote from p. 233:
There are five basic steps in weight loss:
1. Reduce your consumption of added sugars
2. Reduce your consumption of refined grains
3. Moderate your protein intake
4. Increase your consumption of natural fats
5. Increase your consumption of fiber and vinegar
For anyone that wants to learn, for free, the science of nutrition, I recommend taking two courses Macronutrients and Micronutrients at Wageningen University and Research via EDx. It gives you foundations to deal with the nonsense that is so prevalent (e.g., coconut oil). Nutrition is a science where for every argument there are studies that offer counter-arguments. And sheds the light who true villains are.

I wish this book had been available in the early 1980s when my father was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in his late 50s. The knowledge herein could have spared him much suffering at the hands of his doctors.

Concise book focused on scientific research regarding obesity and food. Easy to read. Recommend to anyone who is interested in obesity, health, or intermittent fasting

I enjoyed this book so much that I bought it. Dr. Fung breaks down information in a clear, concise matter. I found he did not talk "over my head" or was trying to sell me something. I read a lot of health and fitness book and I notice a common theme of half of the book is information and the other half contains diet and exercise plans. This book is chocked full of great, useful information from start to finish. I'm so happy that intermittent fasting is becoming known offline. I highly recommend this book if you want to understand the science behind weight gain and what you can do about it.

This is the most important book I have read in recent memory. If you are someone who has tried diets and not had lasting success this is the book you want to read. You will understand how the food pyramid was developed, why we have believed carbs are good and fats are bad for our health, why weight loss diets fail (pick a diet, any diet), and most of all what to do about it. You will understand what to do to change the outcome of your diet. I highly recommend this book.

Anyone even remotely concerned about weight loss would do well to read this book. Very well and clearly written with good, common-sense, and
research-evidenced advice.
