It was a so-so movie. I liked the concept and that made the film worth it to watch. And it helps that its a Ridley Scott film which never is boring. But definitely not the best work for either one of them

Dreary Sci-Fi.

Dreary actor, Matt Damon.

Dreary director, Ridley Scott.

All add up to a totally dreary movie-experience with the dreary Martian.

Good movie. Based off a good book.

Pretty close to the book with minor changes.
LOTR reference proved NASA 2035 AD a bunch of ubernerds.
Time flied despite 3 hour view or flaws like gravity, wind storms or space radiation
There is a coda of protagonist cautionary speech to potential astronauts, launch of Ares 5 with Chinese astronaut as part of quid pro quo & Mitch quietly let go to save mutual face with NASA boss.
Hopeful message of US-China cooperation.
Maybe mistake of UH-1 Huey instead of Blackhawk helicopter near Launch site. However, NASA in starve mode.
Still I wonder how UK will be in this after Brexit vote or kicked out of European Space agency.

When an expedition team sent by NASA arrives in Mars, things go horribly wrong and one of the members, Mark Watney is left stranded on Mars and has to figure out how to survive and contact the people back on Earth who probably think that he is dead. The Martian was an interesting movie, I enjoyed seeing Mark progressively improving his rate of survival and I also enjoyed the way he thought of ways to overcome his struggles. The Martian had some comedic moments and some heartwarming moments. Overall, I really liked watching the movie and I would rate it 4.5/5.

Probably the most plausible science fiction movie we are likely to see.

Excellent adventure movie with good character development. Science as the hero along with the virtues of patience, hope and persistence. Maybe the only time I've ever liked the movie as much or (I can't bear to say it) more than the book. Recommended highly. Enjoy.

Edge of seat-er !
I hope they get to him !
Funny !
Time is running out !

Engaging enough movie. I still haven't figured out why they sent real potatoes all the way to Mars instead of dehydrated flakes. Surely they wouldn't have lasted the length of time it would take to get there?

In a word - boring.

A much drawn out account of how an astronaut was abandoned, all of his trials to survive and ultimate rescue. Refer to my first paragraph.

Mark Watney: They say once you grow crops somewhere, you have officially colonized it. So, technically, I colonized Mars. In your face, Neil Armstrong!

Mark Watney - "...But, consider this; I get to fly around like Iron Man. Let's go Iron Man."

Most of the best quotes are near identical to those from the book ( ) except the film added more earthly material at the end such as Watney addressed the students part 1 of 2:
Welcome to the Astronaut Candidate Program. Now pay attention, because this could save your life.
Trust me, I know what I'm talking about. Let me get a few things out of the way, right off the bat. Yes, I did in fact survive on a deserted planet by farming in my own shit. Yes, it's actually worse than it sounds. So let's not talk about that ever again.

Watney addressed the students part 2 of 2.
The other question I get most frequently is... "When I was up there, stranded by myself... "did I think I was going to die?" Yes, absolutely. And that's what you need to know going in because it's going to happen to you. This is space. It does not cooperate. At some point, everything is going to go south on you. Everything is going to go south and you're going to say, "This is it. "This is how I end." Now, you can either accept that...or you can get to work. That's all it is. You just begin. You do the math. You solve one problem... then you solve the next one. And then the next. And if you solve enough problems, you get to come home.
