What an amazing non-fiction children's book! It contains a spread for each "curious construction"--text on the left, full page illustration on the right. The topics include famous structures like the Eiffel Tower and Stonehenge, and not-so-famous ones, like the Dyar Tunnels (if, like me, you had never heard of them, the book is worth it just to hear that weird little story) and the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. The range of locations and types of constructions is enormous. My 7-year old and I spent many evenings reading this book, then looking at real photos and learning more about these various places with a quick search on my phone. Michael Hearst's other two books, "Extraordinary People" and "Unusual Creatures" do the same for people and animals, respectively. An enriching series that will leave your kids and you with some new wonders to ponder.
