Thought safely entombed deep beneath the desert, an ancient princess whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day. Her malevolence has grown over millennia and with it come terrors that defy human comprehension.
Violence, action and scary images, and for some suggestive content and partial nudity.

I enjoyed this movie experience, which is a far more serious adaption than the decent 1999, and 2001 portrayals. Certainly an updated story line than the 1940's films, with much more special effects abilities, which to the most part enhanced the film.
I found that the special features, did not really add much value, as it was mostly the director and Tom Cruise praising each other over the good work that they had done.
The ending leaves room for a sequel, if the film made enough money to demand one.

This was intended to launch a series of monster films and I doubt it was ever supposed to be a remake of the lighter Brendan Fraser film. It has some cool/creepy special effects and certain things should be expected from a Tom Cruise film but it would have been better as a standalone film without the Mr Hyde cameo.

Just awful. Some of that can be cast on the writing and direction- there's no sense of the humour and thrill ride fun of the Fraser films, and the suspense of the classic films is lacking here as well. Most of the blame, however, goes to the star- Tom Cruise is once again playing Tom Cruise, which is pretty much all he's capable of. Trying to act twenty years younger than he is, the same dead eyes, the same facial expression, the same running around looking like a deer in the headlights- all of that is typical of the actor, and he's a dead weight for the rest of the cast, who are all better than he is and no doubt were wishing they were in another film. It's not that the Dark Universe idea is a bad one, but starting it off with an egomaniac who can't act, playing a character who doesn't come across as compelling or likable, doesn't help at all. If Universal proceeds with their Dark Universe concept, Russell Crowe's Jekyll and Hyde character is at least worth following up with. And Sofia Boutella, playing the title character in this one, deserves a lot better than to be the antagonist to one of the world's most pointless actors.

need i say more?
1. tom cruise is a big disappointment, in his lackluster role & performance.
2. tom cruise should fire his agent for signing him on a film w/ such bad screenplay & director.
3. this tom cruise is a counterfeit! he is not the same 1 in mission impossible or jack reacher.

This is an action movie, and as such I enjoyed it; but, if you are looking for a truly original or moving movie experience, move on. My favorite character was the humorous zombie friend.

This isn't really a remake of the original Mummy movie with Brandon Fraiser - rather it is more of a nod to the older classics of horror movies. I thought it was decently done and the storyline was not bad. I wouldn't have gone to see it in the theater but from the library it was worth watching.

The legend:
Well, we've developed this theory that an Egyptian princess had been erased from the history books deliberately. We've been searching for something called the Dagger of Set. A ceremonial knife with a large jewel at the hilt. Set is the Egyptian god of death. And legend has it that the dagger and the stone, together, had the power to give Set physical form. I'm convinced it was hidden here in Europe. Stolen by Crusaders centuries ago. I found reference to it in a manuscript written by a Crusader knight that suggested the dagger was broken apart. That the stone was buried with this
knight somewhere here in England. A massive Crusader tomb was recently discovered under London. We believe that the stone is in there somewhere. That tomb is what led us to Ahmanet. I think she's the princess in the legend. The hieroglyphs said she murdered her father. ... Along with his child. She made some sort of pact with the god of death...

It is my job to make sure that anything of value stays out of enemy hands. We have no idea what could be down there. The contents of Tutankhamun's tomb alone were valued at 650 million pounds sterling.

Perhaps. Sometimes, it does take a monster to fight a monster.

He is also still a man.
-A good man. Perhaps. Yet he has only begun to discover his power. And we cannot know which side will win out. Between darkness and light, good or evil.
===
Princess Ahmanet. Beautiful, cunning, and ruthless. Sole heir to the throne of Egypt. The pharaoh's kingdom would one day be hers to rule without mercy or fear. And Ahmanet would be worshipped as a living god. But Pharaoh had a son. The boy, now, would inherit her destiny. And Ahmanet understood power was not given. It had to be taken.
===
But death is a doorway, and the past cannot remain buried forever.
