2 stars is enormously generous, but I liked the pretty horses, and the end credits had nice music. I would watch this again if I was too sick to move, it was kind of generic and monster-ey adventurous, with the lamest plot ever.

Tom Cruise owed someone a favor on this one or he got paid an insanely gross amount of money but at the end of it, yes we watch it through we asked each other, when production was over if he sat back watching this movie and said "man that's the best work of my career!" They actually left an open for a second film in a franchise attempt perhaps but let's just say it ain't Mission Impossible franchise material.

Superficially there are interesting aspects of the screenplay and how it weaves ISIS in Mosul, the Knights Templar and a tongue-in-check Tom Cruise with Russell Crowe as Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde. The problem is the overwhelming majority of the movie is more of the same theme-park ride action/adventure/thriller schlock. You can read a newspaper at the same time you watch this one, or putter around your living room doing chores.

Was really looking forward to this one but alas, was disappointed again by a big franchise re-boot that fails to rise from the dead. Rent the original Brendan Fraser movies instead.

Film critics panned this movie, pretty much universally.

Usually, I don't trust film critics but this time they got one right.

It's junk.

Good movie to watch. 5 stars for it

Ok the special effects was good...but the story sucked. I am still not sure if most of the film ended up on the cutting room floor or if there was nothing to begin with. It seems that something is missing or they wanted to tell the rest in a sequel. It seems like an unfinished film. As for Tom Cruise he is just to old for this role.

Well, I hate to be the (almost) sole person to enjoy this (per the below reviews), but I thought it was a gas. [Maybe I missed the latest on political correctness of one of the creators of this movie(?) Dunno, Sorry if so, but...] Is it "Mission Impossible"? No. Did Crowe get to bare his chest or put his foot down in ways we wish all our leaders did (I mean, with actual cause and common sense)? No. Cruise plays an almost regular guy with, admittedly, a 13yo maturity level to go with his less than stellar moral character. Which is what we expect (per the ratings) of 90% of the adventure flicks out there in the last 10 years. With Crowe's character having usually more, but with useful effect on Tom's? Sorry, shouldn't be the spoiler, but he was not "The Gladiator" here. HOWEVER, their adrenal levels and reflexes are about the same - THAT's good, right? Have we so locked in Tom & Russell that they can't fall sideways, let alone to the roof of an airplane tumbling to the earth? Yes, it was pure silliness in parts - oh, intentionally, by the way. Did it stretch the bonds of reality? Folks, it's about... [wait for it...] A MUMMY, for zombie's sake! In any case... if you're not strictly attached (ouch) to your movie stars cast in the same role as they have been for 10 years in your favorite 30yo movie series... well, heck, try this one out. WAY Funnier than most action flicks and with twice the acting skills engaged. Thank you. :-)

Talk about fetid, fecal steaming heaps... I wonder which of the stars realized how bad a movie this was going to be and when said realization hit. There is no getting around it Tom Cruise, who usually knows a good script when he sees one, erred most egregiously this time around; maybe he lost a bet? I was thinking this movie was maybe 30 minutes too long but then decided it was more like an hour and 50 minutes too long. Funny, it seemed to be going all right for the first ten minutes or so and then went all wrong. Someone, apparently, wasn't in on the joke and left out the welcome mat for a sequel! Really! I hope it doesn't happen, alot.

The legend:
Well, we've developed this theory that an Egyptian princess had been erased from the history books deliberately. We've been searching for something called the Dagger of Set. A ceremonial knife with a large jewel at the hilt. Set is the Egyptian god of death. And legend has it that the dagger and the stone, together, had the power to give Set physical form. I'm convinced it was hidden here in Europe. Stolen by Crusaders centuries ago. I found reference to it in a manuscript written by a Crusader knight that suggested the dagger was broken apart. That the stone was buried with this
knight somewhere here in England. A massive Crusader tomb was recently discovered under London. We believe that the stone is in there somewhere. That tomb is what led us to Ahmanet. I think she's the princess in the legend. The hieroglyphs said she murdered her father. ... Along with his child. She made some sort of pact with the god of death...

It is my job to make sure that anything of value stays out of enemy hands. We have no idea what could be down there. The contents of Tutankhamun's tomb alone were valued at 650 million pounds sterling.
Perhaps. Sometimes, it does take a monster to fight a monster.
He is also still a man.
-A good man. Perhaps. Yet he has only begun to discover his power. And we cannot know which side will win out. Between darkness and light, good or evil.
Princess Ahmanet. Beautiful, cunning, and ruthless. Sole heir to the throne of Egypt. The pharaoh's kingdom would one day be hers to rule without mercy or fear. And Ahmanet would be worshipped as a living god. But Pharaoh had a son. The boy, now, would inherit her destiny. And Ahmanet understood power was not given. It had to be taken.
But death is a doorway, and the past cannot remain buried forever.
