"An endearing romantic comedy from the beloved best-selling author of The Family Man and The View from Penthouse B At thirty-two, Faith Frankel has returned to her claustro-suburban hometown, where she writes institutional thank-you notes for her alma mater. It's a peaceful life, really, and surely with her recent purchase of a sweet bungalow on Turpentine Lane her life is finally on track. Never mind that her fiance is off on a crowdfunded cross-country walk, too busy to return her texts (but not too busy to post photos of himself with a different woman in every state. And never mind her witless boss, or a mother who lives too close, or a philandering father who thinks he's Chagall. When she finds some mysterious artifacts in the attic of her new home, she wonders whether anything in her life is as it seems. What good fortune, then, that Faith has found a friend in affable, collegial Nick Franconi, officemate par excellence. Elinor Lipman may well have invented the screwball romantic comedy for our era, and here she is at her sharpest and best. On Turpentine Lane is funny, poignant, and a little bit outrageous. A young private school Development administrator buys a cute bungalow on Turpentine Lane, a house with history and not in a good way, she finds. Small town life where everybody knows everybody sets the stage for this page-turning rom-com with a little mystery. Predictable, but a perfect summer read.

I smiled all the way through this book by one of my favorite authors. Filled with Lipman's usual appealing characters and sharp insights to romantic situations, you'll enjoy Faith Frankel's struggles with her ramshackle house on Turpentine Lane.

What a fun read - snappy dialogue, all sorts of situations that were interesting but none of which outstayed their welcome, enjoyable characters.

I have been a fan of Elinor Lipman since I read some of her earlier titles, Inn at Lake Divine and The Pursuit of Alice Thrift. On Turpentine Lane does not disappoint. I like Lipman's writing style, not too fast, not too slow. It's a fun read with great characters.

This was my first time reading an Elinor Lipman book.
It was totally not what I expected.
It made me keep reading to see what else could happen to the main character. And something always did. A variety of interesting and varied characters that you would think could not be together but were. They added spice, humour and interest to the plot.
It was funny, kept your interest and just a good read.

There are some days when you need to read something that entertains you and makes you smile, not because it's hysterically funny, but because it's such a charming read with a very satisfactory ending. I've been reading Elinor Lipman for years and her books never fail me--this one was delightful with some quirky characters and snappy dialog.
