I know this guy is a cutting edge director and all, but c'mon. I think I deserve an apology for having wasted 2 hours on this thing. Good cast but hard to know if the acting is any good because of the suppressed delivery. Many parts of the movie are actually laugh-out-loud funny, which I'm sure was not the intent. Precious, cloistered storytelling. Wish I hadn't watched it.

I used to think the worst movie ever made was the French radical lesbian feminist short film "Thriller." This is now either tied for worst or actually the worst ever. If Lanthimos had added a subplot there would have been enough material for a one-hour TV cop show episode. Instead this dragged on for 121 minutes of mind-numbing nothingness. Lanthimos wrote, produced, directed and edited this waste of talented actors and money, which means it was a labor of love. However, one man's obsession is not always as marketable as a project with someone to act as counterbalance.

Boring, dumb movie with flat performances and a key question left unanswered!

Director Yorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth, The Lobster) delivers up another surreal story with The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017). On its surface is a modern tale of guilt and revenge, but hidden in its heart is an archetypal tragedy as old as western civilization. Heavy doses of stilted dialogue and symmetrical cinematography add a palpably unsettling ritualistic weight. Throw in a creepily minimalist soundtrack, humor as dry as a Bond Martini, and the eye of a newt, and Sacred Deer brews a heady concoction reminiscent of The Shining (1980) or Cape Fear (1962).

This officially makes it to my "Worst Movie Ever Made" list. Absolutely horrible, complete waste of time.

Wonderfully droll. Deadpan humor and razors edge comments on modern living. He combines disturbing visuals with common place imagery, The most ordinary house becomes a place of curses, threats and blackmail. Everyone has motives and the retelling of ancient myths was brilliant. Nicole Kidman playing the anesthetized patient for her husband was hilarious and deeply insightful into the ruse of the respected surgeon as a demi god. Not for everyone.

Boring all the way to the conclusion. Tries to be something more than it is.

One of the worst movies I have seen in the past year. No one acted like a real human being, it dragged on, and none of it was worth it by the end.

Long dragged out movie. Not worth watching. Hollywood actors like to complain about guns and violence then a movie like this is made. Sick ending. I'm surprised two actors who have children would even take part in this movie.

Guilt can be crippling, and divine vengeance arrives in a convenient family pack in Yorgos Lanthimos’ brilliantly profane retelling of Artemis and Agamemnon set in contemporary bourgeois Cincinnati. Mixing elements of horror, the supernatural, and a hefty dose of Old Testament retribution (by way of Classical mythology) Lanthimos ice cold approach delivers as many laughs as it does shudders—and does so with consummate skill. His signature technique of having actors mouth their lines in a passive monotone, relying instead on jarring music and almost surreal visuals for emotional cues, gives the impression of an ancient Greek tragedy with a bit of kinky sex and absurdist humour thrown in for diversion. It all ends in the same flamboyant manner as it began leaving you to wonder whether you should laugh out loud or gape in disbelief. Euripides would probably be rolling in the aisle.
