The Perfect Cake follows the usual, maddening corporate business practice by AMT/CI/CC of siloing recipes in as many books as possible so that it's impossible to get a single, comprehensive volume. They've clearly mastered the algorithm of selling their collection of recipes a slice at a time in their endless single subject publications. (They're cookbook compendiums aren't as frustrating but they still manage to omit a few key recipes.)

For a book dedicated to cakes, there aren't enough recipes in The Perfect Cake to suit me. The Wellesley Chocolate Fudge Frosting is fantastic, the best chocolate frosting I've ever had but the cake itself is a bit dry. The Blackberry Mascarpone Lemon Cake is a disaster, a rare fail for the AMT/CI/CC crew. Curiously, this AMT recipe has never been featured on the television show. The recipe sidebar doubles the amount of ingredients than the same ingredients in the text so someone clearly didn't show up for work when this recipe left the showroom. The cake itself is dense, rubbery, and awful.

Of the zillions of AMT/CI/CC publications, this one is not among the best.
