I viewed this recently for the first time in a long time and loved it all over again. A pretty simple premise to follow about popularity and good and evil punctuated with racial integration in the sixties. Ricki Lake shines as Tracy Turnblad as does Divine as her mother Edna and another bit part later in the movie. But to me its the small roles that stood out in this flick. Debbie Harry, Sonny Bono, Pia Zadora and Ric Ocasik provide comedy relief in interesting roles. Like many John Waters movies its best just to sit back and let it flow over you. Not too deep but at the same time carries message. well worth the hour and a half and in my opinion much better than the remake with John Travolta.
