Cognoscenti would rave about cinematography, while I think this movie is just plain beautiful. The care taken in presenting the people, the culture, and the scenery (although of Idaho, British Columbia, and Morocco, not Tibet), is wonderful. The story itself is presented with great sensitivity. Scorsese worked with the Dalai Lama, which must have been a spiritual experience for him, based on the way the biographical details are treated. I was drawn to the movie by reading a bit about Philip Glass, whose music for the film is fascinating.
