Once a series reaches volume 5, it's hard to write a review that says much of anything to readers who aren't familiar with the previous volumes. If you are familiar with them, this one doesn't disappoint. First and foremost, the art continues to be lush and vibrant. Second, this is a series that started with characters stumbling into a strange and confusing world that was only revealed to readers in wondrous bits and pieces as the characters discovered and made sense of it, so I really appreciate the way this volume uses flashbacks to develop foundational backstory for readers while continuing to develop the characters in the present. It was very nicely done in a way that deepens my appreciation for and enjoyment of the ongoing story. Those who haven't tried this series yet or who only sampled volume one are missing out, as this continues to be one of the stronger graphic sagas currently on offer for young readers.
