This is not a book for everyone. It is a (mostly) quiet story about the newly-formed relationship between a reclusive man and a misfit dog in a coastal town in Ireland. As the man confides in the dog, telling him every little thing about his unremarkable days (present) and difficult days (past) the real story slowly reveals itself, with a seriously disturbing unveiling three quarters of the way through. Beautifully, poetically, honestly written, I enjoyed finding little bits of light in so much grey. Depressing, for sure- but not all books should be joyful.
