Not for the faint of heart, but this is a gorgeous set of films. The first movie is beautiful. Like, yes, aesthetically gorgeous and very clearly of its time, but also the story is so, SO great and told so well. I love Yuki, and Meiko Kaji’s acting was spine tinglingly good. It’s gory, but as someone easily squicked by realistic violence the 70s aesthetic helped there. It’s a multi-generational revenge story, a love story, a weirdly graceful swashbuckler, and also sad and absurd and deeply satisfying. Highly recommend!
