This was a fresh new take on Beauty and the Beast for me. I’ve always enjoyed reading different retellings of fairy tales, but this retelling of Beauty and the Beast has to my favourite. The author took the origins of the story and built it up from there and created a whole new world of Beauty and the Beast. I enjoyed reading the internal struggle the Beast had with man and beast fighting for control over one body. It was a new look into what the Beast’s life was like with the curse. I appreciated how the author didn’t rush the development between the two main characters, Yeva and the Beast. They let the relationship build up and grow. In previous stories I’ve read, none of the authors go into much detail about life in the village but in this story, you learn about the villagers and the role the main character Yeva plays in the community. I also enjoyed comparing her time in the village before she met the Beast and when she comes back after leaving the beast. @Dimanche of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library I. LOVED. THIS. BOOK. 5 stars. Probably one my favourite books for sure. It is a retelling of beauty and the beast, but better. The story is about a young girl, Yeva, and her family. After losing his fortune, her father moves the family to the outskirts of their town. While Yeva's sisters dislike the outside life, Yeva lives for it as a trained hunter. Tables turn when her father goes missing one night while tracking the one thing no one can find; the beast. So acting on instinct she leaves her sisters own their own and starts her journey. But now she is a prisoner at a far off place hidden in the woods. Yeva discovers creatures she once believed were only in stories and a whole new world that will affect her mind, but most of all, her heart... Yeva's character was so great and filled with so much bravery, love and even humor. 'Hunted' is written from Yeva's point of view with scattered journal entries from the beast - which I loved. - @bibliophile of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library A nice retelling of "Beauty and the Beast" that literally keeps you turning the pages, until way later than your bedtime. Sometimes though I feel like fairytale retellings don't get enough credit for their own spins, while other times I hate the repetition and "attempts" that unsuccessfully try and change the ideas behind. It's a weird, two sided argument. Regardless, this book appealed to both sides fairly, while keeping feelings realistic and not overdoing "love" in its fantastical image. I definitely liked the ending where everything picked up, the pages got bloody, and the story came together at the close. Cute! - @Siri of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library
