Interested in reading a book where you can see the changes in a character? Try this novel where the main female character changes dramatically from a silly youngish married 32 year old with 2 five year old twins who still holds her dad on a pedestal to a still married 32 year old who now has taken charge of her life, accomplishes personal and professional goals, and lives with her family's past in a realistic way. Try to get through the first 150 pages which are quite silly with funny bits as the husband and wife wonder how to bring surprises into their marriage in order to keep them in love which they expect to be for the next 68 years - a shock to them about their "to death do us part" marriage vows. The book gradually becomes more serious, more realistic in its plot as a family secret unfolds and all must deal with its truth. The title of this book is very apt as surprises abound - some good, funny, others sad and tragic. Not to worry - all ends well. I am happy I didn't return this book after reading the first 150 pages. The next 250 pages flew by.
