So, I'm going to try to not compare this with Ready Player One too much because they obviously are different books but when you look at the fun, cohesive, character driven, compelling story line of Ready Player One you can't help but be disappointed with this read. After a strong start with getting to know Zack and introducing what promises to be a quirky and silly story filled with supergeek qualities, it seems as though Cline was rushed. The detail of what is going on stays but his characters lag, any feeling there may have been is absent and the whole premise ends up being both overly simplistic yet strangely messed-up complicated at the same time. I was often jarred out of my possible enjoyment by odd misplaced dialogue and confusingly abrupt plot device changes. I can't even describe it without pointing out specific spoilery scenes which I don't want to do. I wouldn't discourage reading it though. Maybe I'm not 'dork' enough to get it.
